Patterdale Estate Trust

Welcome to the Patterdale Estate Trust (PET)

Preserving nature, protecting our community, and inspiring the next generation.

The Patterdale Estate Trust (PET) is a small charity dedicated to the care and conservation of the historic Patterdale Estate. We rely heavily on the generosity of people to keep our vital conservation work alive.

Every single penny raised goes directly into the land, the wildlife, and the young people we support.

What We Do

Our mission is rooted in the landscape and the community. Through the hard work of our volunteers and the support of our donors, we focus on three main pillars:

🌳 Woodland & Estate Conservation

  • Maintaining Patterdale Estate: We work year-round to preserve the beauty, accessibility, and heritage of the estate grounds.

  • Protecting Wildlife: Through dedicated habitat management, we ensure that local flora and fauna can thrive safely within the estate.

  • Woodland Management: We undertake sustainable forestry and woodland conservation to keep our local ecosystems healthy and resilient.

💧 Environmental Protection & Flood Mitigation

  • Watercourse Management: We actively maintain the waterways running through the estate to promote healthy aquatic environments.

  • Flood Mitigation: By managing the natural landscape and watercourses, we help reduce flood risks, protecting both the estate and the surrounding local community.

🏕️ Inspiring Young People

  • Outdoor Education: We believe that nature is the best classroom. We actively facilitate opportunities to introduce young people to the outdoors, fostering a lifelong respect for nature, conservation, and the environment.

How You Can Help

Because we operate on such a small budget, your support makes a massive, immediate difference. We don’t have large administrative overheads—we just have a passion for the estate and the work that needs to be done.

Make a Donation

As a small charity, even the price of a cup of coffee helps us buy tools, trees, and safety equipment for our programs.

Become a Volunteer

Don’t mind getting your hands dirty? We are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our working parties. Whether it’s clearing waterways, planting trees, or helping to guide youth groups, we would love to have you on the team.
